Charlotte Anychild citizen schoolsCitizen Schools - 6 Degrees

Whenever my cousin comes to stay with us we have fun. He is in middle school and he is sooo smart. Grandma says things really turned around for him when he began participating in a program at his school called Citizen Schools. Grandma said he hated school and she really thought he was going to fail 6th grade. That was until a friend told him about the Citizen Schools program at his school. He had many friends who participated and he was invited to join. Now that he is a part of the Citizen Schools program, grandma says his grades are much better and he really loves school.

Two Mom’s One Goal

Charlotte Anychild at Smart Start at HomeSmart Start at Home has provided family support in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community for 10 years. This program provides first-time mothers individualized, in-home prenatal, parenting and case management services through their child’s first 3 years. The goal of the Smart Start at Home program is to reduce risk factors for poor health and safety by empowering families, encouraging healthy lifestyles, enhancing family functioning and improving access to early intervention, healthcare and social services. The program is free to first time mothers (parents) who are residents of Mecklenburg County.

"What we do to children they will do to society" Dr. Karl Menninger

I joined many passionate community members early this morning to be apart of a Community Conversation concerning Early Education. Our focus, the future of Bright Beginnings, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) public pre-school. The pending vote to cut $10 million from the Bright Beginnings program is tomorrow night.

Everytime a new article or news story come out concerning the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) 2011-2012 budget cuts, I see the same comments again and again. Cut the entire central office, turn off CMS TV, use the lottery money. So are they listening?
